Wythegill Community Benefit Fund Criteria
Please read the following very carefully to make sure you are eligible before you apply.
The Wythegill Community Benefit Fund has £4,000 (approximately) available per year for community projects (the Fund).
The Fund allows groups to apply for grants as follows:
- Minimum grant level – £250
- Maximum grant level – specified each year based on the total annual budget plus any unallocated monies from previous years. The maximum for 2021 is £4,547.
There is one application round to apply to each year.
Projects for which grants are requested must be located within Seaton Parish. We will also accept applications from community projects in Siddick, located in Workington Civil Parish.
Please note: All applications must be supported by your Parish or Town Council and confirmation of this should be stated within your application, to then be considered for a grant.
Priority will be given to:
- Energy efficiency or renewable energy projects, such as insulation, efficient boilers or small scale renewable energy installations
- Training or education projects, especially vocational training for unemployed young people under the age of 25 years old
- Projects for school age children, or older people
- Any other community projects for the benefit of residents of the local area
Eligible Organisations, who can apply for funding include:
- Voluntary, community groups
- Parish Council
- Schools and educational establishments
- Social enterprises (including credit unions, co-operatives, social firms, community owned enterprises, community interest companies and development trusts) provided they operate on a not-for-profit basis
Applicants are required to have a written constitution, a set of rules, or a governing document and a bank or building society account, held in the name of the organisation, in place before applying for a grant.
Organisations that have already received grants from the Fund can apply for further grants each year. All organisations can also submit more than one application to each round of the Fund.
Grants will not be available for:
- Commercial organisations.
- Private membership-based sports clubs and facilities unless membership is open to the general public without undue restriction (e.g. not membership by nomination organisations)
- Projects that only benefit one individual (unless the application is received from an organisation and the project directly benefits individuals, e.g. energy saving measures such as insulation)
- Projects that are narrowly religious in focus or that support a party political campaign or cause
- Funding core costs in organisations, e.g. running costs, administration costs, building rental costs etc., unless the applicant is able to demonstrate a real need, there is a clear community benefit, and the circumstances are exceptional
- Retrospective funding, i.e. projects that have already been completed, whether or not already paid for
- Works considered a statutory responsibility, such as scheduled transport services, works to public highways and public car parks
The main criteria used when assessing applications received will be:
- The social, economic and environmental benefits which will result from the project
- The level of community support for and involvement in the project
- The location of the project in relation to the Wythegill turbines
- The number of people within the stated area of benefit that will benefit from the project
Other factors will also be considered which must be demonstrated in the application:
- The ability of the applicant to deliver the project
- How the work will be continued after the project has been completed i.e. its sustainability and legacy
- Value for money
